According to Deadline, actor Dwayne Johnson (Central Intelligence) will be producing the graphic novel adaptation Son of Shaolin. Sony has acquired the feature project, which was brought in to the studio by Matt Milam who will oversee.
So far, Johnson’s involvement is behind the camera, however Deadline hinted that his onscreen presence is a possibility as well depending on his availability. Son of Shaolin is based on the soon-to-be-published graphic novel created by Jay Longino (Skiptrace). Longino will also pen the script. While specifics of the story are being kept under wraps, the tale reportedly revolves around contemporary Kung-Fu intertwining with Shaolin mythology. There are hopes that this may be the start of a global franchise.
Along with Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia from Seven Bucks Productions will produce. Longino and Ryan Kalil – Carolina Panthers’ All-Pro center – will executive produce. Kalil financed the production of the graphic novel through his Strange Turn Entertainment banner.
Johnson will soon see the release of his Disney animated film Moana. He is also producing and starring in the Baywatch film adaptation and the Shane Black-directed Doc Savage.
