“You know his name!” Universal Pictures dropped the official trailer for expected summer smash Jason Bourne, which finds Matt Damon leading again in his signature franchise. Director Paul Greengrass (Captain Phillips) returned to helm this fourth installment (fifth if you include the 2012 Damon-less The Bourne Legacy) of the spy series originally based on the character made famous by Robert Ludlum’s book series.
Jason Bourne goes off book in this latest caper. While the plot machinations are still left in the dark, the filmmakers (and the first trailer) make allusions that this go around centers in a very Edward Snowden-esque landscape. Greengrass wrote the screenplay, credited along with Christopher Rouse (who won an Oscar for editing 2007’s The Bourne Ultimatum; he also cut Jason Bourne); Damon himself, an Oscar winner for co-penning the indie triumph Good Will Hunting (1997), reportedly took an uncredited swing at the script himself.
The cast this go around is mostly made up of first-timers to the franchise, save for Julia Stiles, returning as Nicky. The rest of the cast in comprised of Oscar winner Tommy Lee Jones (Lincoln), Riz Ahmed (Nightcrawler), Vincent Cassel (Black Swan) and Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl), in her first time on-screen since winning an Oscar last February. Check out the trailer below.
Jason Bourne revs into theaters on July 29th.
