The Vampire Diaries star Sara Canning has just been brought on board for the upcoming War for the Planet of the Apes film, set to be released in the summer of 2017. This follows the announcement of Aleks Paunovic (This Means War) also signing on to the film.

While the plot for the third installment of this prequel series is sealed airtight, we do know that Canning will play the part of one of the new ape characters. She will join the likes of Woody Harrelson (Zombieland), Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings series), Steve Zahn (Dallas Buyers Club), Judy Greer (Jurassic World), and Gabriel Chavarria (Freedom Writers).

War for the Planet of the Apes will see Matt Reeves in the driver’s seat, directing a script that he co-wrote with Mark Bomback.
