Isla Fisher (Now You See Me) has joined Tom Ford’s (A Single Man) Nocturnal Animals, according to Deadline. The actress will play Laura Hastings in the adaptation of the novel by Austin Wright.
The film follows Susan Morrow (Amy Adams, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice) who receives a package containing a novel manuscript written by her formerly unpublished ex-husband. The novel follows Tony Hastings (Jake Gyllenhaal, Everest) whose life is set off course by an altercation during which his wife (Fisher) is present. While reading the novel, Morrow has to face truths about her own past.
Fisher joins an impressive cast for the project that, along with Adams and Gyllenhaal, includes Michael Shannon (99 Homes), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Armie Hammer (The Man From U.N.C.L.E), and Kim Basinger (L.A. Confidential). For Ford, it’s been nearly six years since his directorial debut A Single Man earned critical acclaim as well as a Best Actor Oscar nomination for Colin Firth (Kingsman: The Secret Service) who would win the following year for The King’s Speech.
Given Ford’s pedigree as a writer and director, the project’s development has been closely followed as it’s already in the awards discussion for when it releases in 2016. Next year will also see the release of Fisher’s recently completed project with Jim Parsons (TV’s Big Bang Theory), a horror flick called Visions.
We’ll continue to keep you abreast of any developments for Nocturnal Animals.
