It seems like it was ages ago that Disney premiered the first teaser for Brad Bird’s (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol) Tomorrowland. That teaser focused mainly on the set-up and premise of the film, with only a very brief hint at the world of ‘Tomorrowland’ itself. Now comes more of that world by way of the Super Bowl spot featured during last night’s broadcast. The spot features stars George Clooney (The Monuments Men), Britt Robertson (Ask Me Anything), and Hugh Laurie (TV’s House M.D.) gawking at some of the futuristic and advanced features of ‘Tomorrowland.’
Tomorrowland is based off the similarly named theme world at Disneyland (and Disney’s other resorts), and the images in the spot seem to highlight that Bird and company were inspired by the look and design of Disney’s visual themes. It also seems to be a world focused heavily on technology and science, and Damon Lindelof (Star Trek Into Darkness) – co-writer along with Jeff Jensen and director Bird – alluded to as much by teasing, “What Hogwarts is to magic, Tomorrowland is to science.”
In the film, Clooney plays a former child prodigy whom accompanies a young, promising teen (Robertson) on an adventure to another world both in time and space. The film also stars Judy Greer (also featured in this year’s Jurassic World), Keegan-Michael Key (Horrible Bosses 2), Kathryn Hahn (This is Where I Leave You), and Tim McGraw (The Blind Side). Tomorrowland is scheduled for theatrical release on May 22nd.
