The long awaited final chapter in director Edgar Wright’s Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy is The World’s End, opening August 23.
You wouldn’t think that the raucous apocalyptic sci-fi comedy would be spawning the last hope for mankind, but with funnymen Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in top drinking form, anything can happen. The World’s End reunites five childhood friends who are attempting to recreate an epic stunt from their glory days – drinking their way across England to their final destination, The World’s End Pub. Along the way, with ascending levels of intoxication, the friends reconcile with their past, accept their present, and realize that it’s the future of the world that’s really at stake.
Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and Joe Cornish all had a hand in penning the script. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost resume their original characters from Shaun of the Dead, and Hot Fuzz, the first two films in the Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy, named for an ice cream they devour in each film. Martin Freeman and Rosamund Pike (Die Another Day, Jack Reacher) also star, with Pierce Brosnan (Golden Eye, Die Another Day, Mama Mia) popping up in a cameo appearance.
Edgar Wright was at Comic Con to promote The World’s End and to debut the latest trailer. Fans couldn’t help but press him for information about his upcoming film for the Marvel Universe, Ant-Man. Ant-Man has been in the works for several years, being pushed to the side with script, directing and casting problems. Wright has agreed to helm the project, alleviating that particular issue, and he promised a November 2015 release, but would reveal nothing further.
Maire Bett, Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner and Nira Park are producing The World’s End, with James Biddle and Liza Chaser executive producing.
