Katherine McNamara (New Years Eve) has booked two new jobs, joining the sequel to the YA adaptation of the The Maze Runner, The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials, as well as a romantic thriller called Indiscretion. She will play the role of a new character Sonya.
Plot and character details for Scorch Trials have yet to be released, but it is known that McNamara will play a character named Sonya, who in the novel is a past leader of Group B, the second group to participate in The Trials, composed entirely of girls. The group will be led by a woman named Harriet, played by Game of Thrones actress Nathalie Emmanule. The film revolves around Thomas’s (Dylan O’Brien) group joining Group B after escaping a separate maze.
Along with New Years Eve, McNamara is best known for playing Harper Munroe on the MTV show Happyland. She has multiple projects currently in production, including the the coming-of-age drama A Sort of Homecoming, the comedy Is That a Gun in Your Pocket, and now the aforementioned Indiscretion. That film follows the wife of a politician (Mira Sorvino) whose past lover resurfaces and infiltrates every part of their family’s life. McNamara will play Mira Sorvino’s daughter. Carey Elwes (The Princess Bride) will play McNamra’s father.
Scorch Trials is currently in production and is set to release September 18, 2015. Indiscretion is currently filming and set to release in 2015 as well.
