Yesterday we were treated to the first official poster for Spike Lee’s Oldboy remake. Today, we’re given a trailer.
Be aware, this is a red band trailer.
The poster featured the tagline, “Ask not why you were imprisoned. Ask why you were set free,” and this is certainly a theme that is played upon heavily. The first half of the trailer emphasizes the passing of time and the mundane nature of of Joe Doucett’s (Josh Brolin) captivity, only to cut loose (both literally and metaphorically) after his sudden release.
As we mentioned yesterday, it’s a tall task living up to Chan-wook Park’s original Oldboy adaptation, but with Oscar nominee Brolin looking to carry the lead role (hard to believe this was almost Will Smith) this newest Oldboy seems strong heading into its October 25th release.
