The most interesting thing about The Frame may not actually be its visually impressive trailer – although it is interesting – but instead the person behind it, Jamin Winans. Winans is an independent filmmaker from Colorado. His first feature film – which he wrote, directed, edited, and composed the score for – Ink, a modern day fantasy with themes of fatherhood and childhood fears, was surprisingly successful given its $250 thousand budget. Critics praised the film for its competent script and striking visuals – it’s currently at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Ink made money thanks mostly to positive word of mouth and digital distribution.
Winans distributed Ink himself through his own production company, Double Edge Films, and plans to do the same with his followup feature. Although the trailer for The Frame is nice to look at, it doesn’t really give much away regarding the plot. In fact, no real concrete information regarding The Frame is available yet, including its release date. However, given the imagery presented – like a mysterious figure in a top hat, and a person literally melting into darkness – it seems fair to expect another modern fantasy from Winans.
