Focus Features has reportedly accepted the remake rights to the French thriller With a Friend Like Harry. Originally produced in 2000, the plot focuses on a couple who stop to use the restroom along a highway oasis. The husband, Michael gets locked in a conversation with a strange man named Harry who who claims to have gone to high school with Michael. Things quickly turn sinister when Harry becomes too attached to Michael and his wife. It was directed by Dominik Moll and starred Laurent Lucas as Michael and Sergi Lopez as Harry.
No casting news has broke about the remake but the word is that Marven Pictures executives Celine Rattary (Black Nativity, Bernie) and Trudie Styler (Filth). Producing alongside the duo is Michelle Krumm (The Spectacular Now, The Kids Are Alright). Penning the script is actor/screenwriter Wentorth Miller. Based on Miller’s work on the script for Stroker, he seems like a decent fit for the psychological thriller.
In 2012, producers enlisted director Kimberly Pierce to direct, but the director of Boys Don’t Cry and the 2013 remake of Carrie was reported to have signed a First-Look deal with ABC. Its unclear whether or not she is still involved with With a Friend Like Harry.
