While promoting his new memoir, One Helluva Ride, Michael Douglas provided an update on Jack Nicholson’s well-being. Douglas, a longtime friend of Nicholson since producing the film that earned him one of his multiple Academy Awards, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, spoke with People Magazine and shared the following update.
He first began by saying how he wished he had shared the screen with Nicholson. “I would have liked to have acted with Jack. He’s not working anymore. He’s well. He has disappeared. I know that.” He then added the following:
“I still see him, but he is fine. He is up there by his house and walking around in his slippers. It happens. He deserves it. I understand. He is a few years older than me, but I understand.”
Douglas’s comments come as Nicholson has tried to make fewer on-screen and off-screen appearances. Nicholson’s last on-screen film role was in 2010’s How Do You Know. His most recent public appearances were at a Lakers game in 2023 and a surprise on-screen appearance introducing an Adam Sandler musical performance during the SNL 50th Anniversary Special, a clip of which can be viewed below:
Douglas’s memoir, One Helluva Ride, was published by Grand Central Publishing on October 6 and is now available for purchase.
