Sony Pictures has pre-emptively acquired Penthouse, an original concept thriller from screenwriter Drew Pearce (The Fall Guy, Iron Man 3), packaging the title as a starring and producing vehicle for Tom Holland.
The project reinforces the lucrative partnership between the studio and Holland following the global theatrical run of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which crossed the $2 billion benchmark at the worldwide box office. Holland’s production company, Billy17, currently holds an active first-look producing pact with Sony.
Pearce is set to pen the screenplay, collaborating closely with Holland and the Billy17 creative team throughout development. Specific logline details remain under wraps, though the project is characterized as a high-concept thriller. Producing alongside Pearce for his Point of No Return banner are Holland, Harry Holland, and Will South for Billy17, with Ian Fisher attached as executive producer for Point of No Return.
Penthouse adds to a busy docket at Sony for Holland, who is also attached to produce and star as Fred Astaire in the studio’s upcoming biographical musical drama alongside Margaret Qualley, Sabrina Carpenter, and Talia Ryder. The actor also recently wrapped a key role in Christopher Nolan’s historical epic The Odyssey.
Pearce’s writing credits include Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw and Hotel Artemis, the latter of which marked his feature directorial debut. His remake of The Thomas Crown Affair, directed by and starring Michael B. Jordan, is slated to hit theaters in March 2027.
