Netflix has released the first trailer for Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, Greta Gerwig’s hotly anticipated follow-up to the billion-dollar-grossing Barbie, and her adaptation of C.S. Lewis’s book of the same name. The film adapts the first book in the Narnia series and serves as an origin story for the world and its lore.
The trailer highlights this fact, with text spread out throughout the trailer that reads “Next year. Experience the Chronicles. For the first time. From the very beginning.”
The trailer gives audiences their first look at Greta Gerwig’s bold new visual interpretation of Narnia, featuring psychedelic colors and 60’s punk rock-era costuming. The trailer is soundtracked by Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven”, a fitting choice for the film’s aesthetic, and one Gerwig herself called “the story of the movie” during the trailer’s premiere event in Times Square, since it centers on a “spiritual quest.”
The film stars, in their film debuts, David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell as the two lead children who take the journey through Narnia. The film also stars Daniel Craig as Uncle Andrew, Emma Mackey as the White Witch, and Carey Mulligan as the two children’s mother. Ciarán Hinds, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Denise Gough and Susan Wokoma also round out the cast. In addition, Meryl Streep will be voicing Aslan, who is seen in the trailer, though Streep’s voice isn’t heard.
The film’s release is notable, as it will be Netflix’s largest theatrical release to date, with the streamer giving it a wide release in IMAX and other premium large formats for 49 days on February 12, 2027, before making it available to stream on April 2. The trailer can be viewed below:
