Walt Disney Studios and 20th Century Studios officially revealed the title and an early look at The New Simpsons Movie during the D23 Entertainment Showcase at the Honda Center in Anaheim. The upcoming animated sequel marks the franchise’s first theatrical feature since 2007’s The Simpsons Movie. Disney Entertainment Co-Chairman Dana Walden introduced the project alongside an animated segment featuring Bart Simpson. Walden presented a work-in-progress animatic composed of storyboards and rough color animation set to temporary score cues from The Natural and Speed.
The previewed sequence centers on Homer Simpson attending a Springfield Isotopes baseball game alongside co-workers Lenny, Carl, and Kirk Van Houten. When a home run ball heads toward the stands, Homer attempts to catch it, sparking a town-wide pursuit. The runaway ball ricochets through the stadium before spilling across Springfield, tearing through Moe’s Tavern, a bowling alley, and an emergency room. The chase culminates inside the Duff Brewery, where Homer ends up inside a fermentation vat before being propelled back to the ballpark, where Bart casually picks up the ball.
While specific overarching narrative details remain under wraps, the presentation confirmed the official sequel title as The New Simpsons Movie. 20th Century Studios previously announced the development of a second feature in September 2025. The original 2007 release grossed $536 million worldwide, following a plot where Homer accidentally triggered an ecological crisis that resulted in Springfield being sealed under a quarantine dome.
The New Simpsons Movie is scheduled for a wide theatrical release on September 3, 2027.
