The sequel to the 2014 indie horror film It Follows, titled They Follow, has just received a major filming update from director David Robert Mitchell. While promoting his upcoming science fiction film The End of Oak Street, starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor as a suburban married couple who find their world turned upside down, Mitchell revealed to ScreenRant that production for the upcoming sequel is in full swing.

Mitchell explained that production on They Follow just concluded it’s “fourth week of filming,” adding that he is “very excited” to release the project after its completion.

A sequel to It Follows, starring returning lead Maika Monroe (Longlegs, Watcher), was first greenlit in 2023. The NEON-acquired sequel was well anticipated by horror fans, but had since hit a delay due to scheduling conflicts involving both Mitchell and Monroe. Monroe has kept a busy schedule over the past few years, starring in the supernatural horror film Longlegs from director Oz Perkins as well as leading films such as 100 Nights of Hero, the Colleen Hoover adaptation Reminders of Him, as well as the upcoming period-horror film Victorian Psycho co-starring Thomasin McKenzie and Jacobi Jupe.

It had been recently reported that They Follow made a few additions to its cast, adding performers such as Naomi Ackie (Clayface, Blink Twice), Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen, A Nightmare on Elm Street), Justine Lupe (Succession), Anna Mirodin (Ivan), Jayne Taini (Unbelievable), Michael Gandolfini (Daredevil: Born Again), Tom Pecinka (Stereophonic), Melora Walters (Magnolia), Ben Krieger (Song Sung Blue), Natalie Shinnick (The Brutalist), and Jan Hoag (The Fabelmans).

They Follow remains in production. A release date has not been confirmed at this time. David Robert Mitchell’s The End of Oak Street is now in theaters. Victorian Psycho stars Maika Monroe and is directed by Zachary Wigon and written by Virginia Feito, based on her 2025 novel of the same name. The film is slated for a November 13 release.
