Sony Pictures has officially released the first teaser trailer and promotional preview for Jumanji: Open World, the upcoming fourth installment in the Jumanji film franchise and the direct conclusion to the modern reboot trilogy that began with 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. The feature film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 25, 2026.
Directed by Jake Kasdan, who previously helmed Welcome to the Jungle and 2019’s Jumanji: The Next Level, the screenplay was written by Kasdan alongside returning co-writers Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg. The narrative picks up following the cliffhanger ending of The Next Level, in which elements of the titular video game begin bleeding into the real world. In Open World, the digital game console breaks free entirely, unleashing the virtual avatars, Dr. Xander “Smolder” Bravestone, Franklin “Mouse” Finbar, Professor Sheldon “Shelly” Oberon, and Ruby Roundhouse, into the real world while locked in malfunctioning “demo mode” states.
The central core avatar cast returns, led by Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan. The real-world teen and adult player cast also reprises their roles, including Alex Wolff (Spencer Gilpin), Ser’Darius Blain (Anthony “Fridge” Johnson), Morgan Turner (Martha Kaply), Madison Iseman (Bethany Walker), Danny DeVito (Eddie Gilpin), Nick Jonas (Jefferson “Seaplane” McDonough), Awkwafina (Ming Fleetfoot), and Rhys Darby (Nigel Billingsley). Additional supporting cast members include Marin Hinkle, Lamorne Morris, Bebe Neuwirth, Dan Hildebrand, and Jack Jewkes.
The project is produced by Matt Tolmach, Jake Kasdan, Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, and Hiram Garcia. The previous two modern installments generated a combined total of over $1.7 billion at the global box office. Sony Pictures will distribute Jumanji: Open World exclusively in theaters on Christmas Day.
