Jonathan Goldstein, co-writer and co-director of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, recently revealed that he has a fully completed script for a potential sequel. At this year’s San Diego Comic Con, he revealed that hey had a fully finished script for a second film, which he admitted may never make it to the screen.

Goldstein said, “We actually wrote a sequel to Dungeons & Dragons. We were hired to write it.  I don’t know that it will see the light of day for a number of financial reasons. They’re expensive movies to make, but it’d be great fun to do it. We love that cast, and we think we wrote something that fans would like.” Goldstein wrote and directed alongside John Francis Daley.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves released in 2023 from Paramount Pictures, and despite receiving great reviews from critics and audiences, only grossed $205M worldwide on a $150M budget. Despite ordering a script for a sequel, plans for a sequel were scrapped following the film’s lackluster performance. They did order a Dungeons & Dragons TV series for Paramount Plus from Rawson Marshall, but that was also cancelled. Hasbro moved the project over to Netflix, now renamed to The Forgotten Realms, from Shawn Levy and Drew Crevello.

As for the cancelled sequel film, there are no plans to move forward with it as of now. Goldstein still seems interested, and the script is finished if a distributer gives it a chance, but as of now, the franchise is dead before it even started.
