Per Deadline, Colman Domingo (Euphoria) will co-write the live action version of The Princess and the Frog alongside Robert O’Hara (Bootycandy, Barbecue). The Princess and the Frog was released in 2009 and was the last Disney movie to be animated. Ron Clements (Moana, The Little Mermaid) and John Musker (Treasure Planet, Hercules) directed.
The film focuses on Tiana who is an aspiring restaurateur who works two jobs as a waitress to make her dreams come true. However, her dreams come to a vault as Prince Naveen enters her life and forces her to kiss him as a frog— which causes her to be a frog as well, which causes an interesting twist.
The Princess and the Frog starred Anika Noni Rose (Maid, Everything, Everything), Bruno Campos (Crazylove, The Wedding Album), Jennifer Cody (Shrek the Musical, Khumba), Keith David (Rick and Morty, Coraline), Oprah Winfrey (The Color Purple, A Wrinkle in Time), Jim Cummings (Winnie the Pooh, A Goofy Movie), Jenifer Lewis (What’s Love Got to Do with It, Sister Act), Michael-Leon Wooley (AJ and the Queen, Ghost Town) and John Goodman (Monsters, Inc., The Big Lebowski).
Other live action Disney films include Lilo and Stitch, Moana, Cinderella, Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, Aladdin and others. Domingo is a seven time award winning actor from his roles in Sing Sing, Rustin, The Color Purple and Euphoria.
