Via The Hollywood Reporter, Zendaya (Euphoria, Challengers) expressed her anxiety working alongside director Christopher Nolan (The Dark Night, Oppenheimer). The comment was initially released on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz.
After Horowitz asked the actress why she messed up her lines which he expressed was out-of-character, Zendaya further elaborated on her anxiety working with Nolan, “Here’s the thing. I had my lines and I wanted to have them so down. I think I psyched myself out a little bit. It was particularly cold. … It was in Iceland. My mouth was just frozen. Oh, there is nothing coming out. My mouth just won’t move. Literally. It just came out like, ‘Blah blah blah.’ So embarrassing.”
She continued by stating, “But I will say, I think just showing up in any situation like this… It was such a pleasure and a gift to be able to share scenes with people you’ve admired for so long. Part of you has to compartmentalize to a degree. OK, lock in; we’re working. But I was so moved and excited to be there and wanted to do my best work.”
The news comes shortly after Tom Holland (Spider-Man: No Way Home, Uncharted) announced he thought Nolan disliked his acting skills after yelling cut during a take, only to find out that IMAX cameras can only run for about 3 minutes.
The Odyssey stars Matt Damon (The Martian, Interstellar), Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway (Love & Other Drugs, Rio), Robert Pattinson (The Drama, Dune: Part Three), Mia Goth (Frankenstein, EMMA.), Elliot Page (Inception, My Days of Mercy), Travis Scott, Jon Bernthal (Daredevil, Spider-Man: Brand New Day), Lupita Nyong’o (Black Panther, Us) and others. The film is a direct adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey that follows Odysseus and his journey back to Ithaca. The film releases July 17 in theaters.
