Lewis Pullman is set to star in Ragamuffin, a motocross coming-of-age drama from director Kaitlyn Mikayla. The film will follow Pullman, a motocross rider known as Mad Mike, as he trains his aspiring motocross champion daughter for a summer-long motocross tournament. Casting for the daughter hasn’t been announced yet.
The film will be the directorial debut for Kaitlyn Mikayla. The film is based on a short film of the same name, also directed by Mikayla. That short film, executive-produced by Oscar nominee Jason Reitman, premiered at Sundance and won several awards at various film festivals. Those awards include the Kodak Best Shot on Film (16mm) award at the HollyShorts Film Festival, Best Narrative Short at the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival, among others.
The film will be produced by Oscar-nominated producer David Permut, who, along with Alex Astrachan, will be producing through Permut Presentations. Permut is known for producing Sundance projects, including the Sundance U.S. Dramatic Award-winning film Twinless and this year’s Sundance hit, The Invite.
Coinciding with the announcement of the film and Pullman’s casting, Kaitlyn Mikayla made the following statement:
“Lewis brings a rare emotional depth and authenticity to every role he inhabits. Inspired by, and named after, my own father, finding the right actor carried enormous weight. Lewis has an extraordinary ability to communicate entire worlds beneath the surface, and I couldn’t be more excited to have him bring Mad Mike to life on screen.”
Pre-Production and financing on Ragamuffin are currently underway. A release date hasn’t been announced yet.
