Ari Aster’s next film is beginning to take shape. He’s finalized the script for his latest project, going under the title of Scapegoat, and has even secured A-list actress Scarlett Johansson for the lead role.
As of this writing, details on the story of Scapegoat have yet to be divulged. It will, however, mark his fifth feature film, coming after a stretch of other acclaimed works. His distinct style permeates each of his films, even blending his style with real-world affairs that took place in 2020 with his latest, film Eddington.
Scapegoat will mark the first time that both Johansson and Aster will work together on a film. Despite this, reports indicate that Aster had always had Johansson in mind to star, even when the script was still actively being written, with some of Deadline’s own sources indicating that Johansson was very excited about the opportunity.
Deadline pointed out that, despite her excitement, Johansson will be keeping herself very busy for a while. She’s currently working on the long-awaited follow up to Matt Reeves’ The Batman, in which she’s been cast as Gilda Dent, the wife of district attorney turned criminal, Two-Face. She’s also slated to appear in Mike Flannagan’s new movie with Blumhouse, a sequel to horror staple The Exorcist.
