The previously announced sequel to surprise hit, The Housemaid, is ramping up. Kirsten Dunst has signed on for a role in the sequel, now titled, The Housemaid’s Secret. Sydney Sweeney returns as “housemaid”, Millie. This time around, she’s working for a woman she’s never allowed to see, but she soon discovers the truth that lies on the other side of the door, which threatens to expose dark secrets.
Also returning as director is Paul Feig, and Michele Morrone as the mysterious groundskeeper, Enzo. They previously paired up on another Feig-directed film, Another Simple Favor. Screenwriter of the first film, Rebecca Sonnenshine, is returning for the sequel as well. Deadline reported a quote from Lionsgate Motion Picture Group president Erin Westerman about the cast addition. He stated,
It is a privilege to bring The Housemaid‘s next chapter to the screen with Kirsten Dunst. Her career reflects extraordinary range and fearlessness. Opposite the ever-magnetic Sydney Sweeny, she will be an electrifying force in a world where nothing is ever quite as it seems.
The Housemaid became a surprise hit after its December 2025 release. The film grossed nearly $400 million at the global box office, leading Lionsgate to quickly announce a sequel and lock in Sweeney. The sequel is based on the second book in author Freida McFadden’s Housemaid series.
Dunst is a hot commodity, recently signing on to star in a sequel to The Minecraft Movie. The Oscar-nominated actress will also star in Ruben Ostlund’s, The Entertainment System is Down, expected to be released later this year. She most recently starred in Civil War and Roofman.
