The Sonic Universe will see plenty of returning faces; or voices, for the fourth installment, while also making some major additions to the cast. The major additions that were just announced see Nick Offerman, Kristen Bell, and Ben Kingsley joining the cast.
For Kristen Bell and Nick Offerman in particular, this is not their first rodeo when it comes to voice work. Fans of Bell will recognize her voice from Frozen 1 and 2, Zootopia, and Ralph Breaks the Internet. Offerman has also had some experience with voice acting, as he can be heard in The Lego Movie 1 and 2, and Sing 1 and 2. They will be joining a cast that includes Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Idris Elba as Knuckles, Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails, Keanu Reaves as Shadow, and Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik. The current voice cast is rounded out by James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Matt Berry, Lee Majdoub, Richard Ayoade, and Adam Pally. Of this bunch, James Marsden and Tika Sumpter appear in human form as Sonic’s adopted parents, joining Jim Carrey as the live action hybrid members of the cast.
The plot for the film is currently unknown, but it is safe to say that Sonic has become a trusted brand for Paramount. The box office for the first 3 installments has exceeded $1 billion and not only has the Knuckles spin-off series hit Paramount+, but a fifth Sonic film is already dated for December 22, 2028. For the upcoming fourth installment, Jeff Fowler will return to direct after directing all 3 previous films and said spin-off series.
Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is currently set to race into theaters on March 19, 2027. A video reveal of the title card can be found below.
