The Oscar for Best Live Action Short resulted in a rare tie this year, with the two winners being The Singers and Two People Exchanging Saliva. The award was presented by Kumail Ali Nanjiani, who was just as surprised as anyone else to present two winners. The awards were presented one at a time, with Sam A. Davis and Jack Piatt coming up first to accept their Oscar for The Singers. This was followed by Alexandre Singh and Natalie Musteata, with the latter thanking The Academy for recognizing queer cinema and a predominantly female cast and crew. This marks the seventh tie in Oscars history across all categories.
