Despite being number 1 at the domestic box office, Disney and Pixar’s Hoopers saw a slight drop in its second weekend. According to box-office data from The Numbers, the film grossed $28.5 million domestically, a 37% drop from its opening weekend. With the film making $78 million internationally, Hoppers has now made $164 million worldwide. The newest domestic release, the Coleen Hoover adaptation Reminders of Him, ended up #2 at the domestic box office, grossing $18 million. The other newest domestic release, the indie horror film Undertone, ended up at #3 at the domestic box office, making $9.3 million. The other films in the domestic box office top 5 include Scream 7, which made $8.3 million in its third weekend, and Sony Pictures Animation’s Goat, which made $4.7 million in its fifth weekend.
In additional box office news, many of this year’s Best Picture Oscar nominees saw slight bumps in their box office following their nominations. Indie distributor Neon saw most of this bump, with two of its independent releases being nominated for best picture. The Secret Agent, which received 4 Oscar nominations, has earned $4.3 million domestically, much of that total coming after its nominations. Similarly, Sentimental Value, which received 9 Oscar nominations, has earned $5 million domestically, and once again, much of that total came after its nominations. The third film to receive a box-office bump following its Oscar nominations was Focus Features’ Hamnet, which saw a 36% increase, bringing its global box office total to a tad under $100 million.
It’s yet to be seen whether next weekend will see higher domestic box office numbers. Next weekend sees the release of Project Hail Mary, the hotly anticipated adaptation of Andy Weir’s best-selling novel. It’ll also see the release of Ready or Not 2: Here I come, the sequel to the indie horror film Ready or Not.
