Families came in droves this weekend after Valentine’s Day hype dies down and crowds clear out. After premiering last week GOAT became the MVP of this weekend braking out a slam dunk of 17 million in its second outing. With only a 37 percent drop GOAT secured its crown over the competition with the edge of family friendly appeal. In a not so fruitful endeavor Wuthering Heights dropped a massive 57 percent without couples in the mood for a romantic themed flick only taking in 14.2 million in its second domestic week. Despite the stumble Wuthering Heights still had a massively successful international rollout and isn’t in any danger of falling behind. Third place went to newcomer I Can Only Imagine 2 from Lionsgate the sequel to the highly successful biopic film of the lead singer of Christian rock band MercyMe Bart Miller. I Can Only Imagine 2 brought in 8 million for its premiere.
The rest of the weekend’s slate was a line up of familiar faces with fourth place going to Crime 101 with 5.77 million followed by Send Help in fifth place with 4.5 million. Though two more fresh faces kick off the middle of the chart with How To Make A Killing From A24 premiering with 3.56 million dollars after much anticipation for the indie thriller. Seventh place went to a cinematic concert film, this experience was brought to screens by EPiC with the Elvis Presley in Concert that made its tour and brought in 3.25 million for its limited release.
The bottom half of the chart this week starts with Solo Mio with 2.55 million in its third week, Zootopia 2 with 2.3 million still in the top 10 after 13 weeks in theaters, and 10th place going to Avatar Fire and Ash with 1.8 million still hanging on after 10 weeks.
Outside the top 10 a couple of more notable films produced surprising numbers. In the case of Psycho Killer not the good kind. After a record-breaking zero percent Rotten Tomatoes debute streak the film flopped It’s opening with 1.6 million making it one of the poorest 20th Century Disney openings ever recorded. Following having slipped down the lower end of the chart is Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die, which brought in 1.55 million in it second outing showing typical numbers for sci-fi indie films just barely managing to fall behind Psycho Killer. On a happier note internet star Markaplier’s indie horror Iron Lung saw 1.1 million for its fourth week sitting on the cusp of a phenomenal 40 million domestic gross.
