Sam Raimi’s newest feature, Send Help, has been satisfying audiences, according to its Rotten Tomatoes score.
Send Help‘s Rotten Tomatoes audience score is Raimi’s best score in 39 years, and is his first original horror movie since 2012’s Drag Me to Hell, and his first R-rated horror movie since 2000’s The Gift. The newest feature follows a corporate employee, played by Rachel McAdams, who is trapped on a desert island with her new and not very likable CEO, played by Dylan O’Brien, and changes the dynamics with her survival skills.
The film currently has an 88% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes with more than 100 verified reviews following the film’s theatrical opening day. Although it is slightly lower than the 94% ceritifed fresh critics score, it is Raimi’s best popcornmeter score since 1987’s Evil Dead II, which had a 89% score.
While Raimi has had a hand in many horror features as a producer, including Evil Dead Rise, Crawl and Don’t Breathe, Send Help marked his return to horror as a director. The audience score could lead to Raimi making another directing return to horror, with this feature being so beloved. ScreenRant reported many individual users referencing their excitement at seeing him return to form.
ScreenRant also reports the film could have a solid box office performance if the Popcornmeter score and audience reactions remain positive. It reportedly cost $40 million, so the break-even point is around $100 million.
Send Help is currently playing in theaters.
