The international and sidebar juries have been selected for the annual Berlin International Film Festival. For the international jury, there are a handful of big names this year. Japanese director Hikari (Rental Family) headlines the group this year. Alongside him are South Korean actor Bae Doona, Polish producer Ewa Puszczyńska, and American director Reinaldo Marcus Green. This group, along with many others, will decide who takes home the Gold and Silver Bears at this year’s Berlin International Film Festival. This year marks the 76th Berlinale, and it will take place from February 12 to February 22. Last year, Dag Johan Haugerud’s Dreams (Sex Love) took home the Golden Bear, with Gabriel Mascaro’s The Blue Trail receiving the Silver Bear.
Additionally, Berlin selected its sidebar juries for Perspectives, Documentary, Generation, and Shorts sections. Among the Perspectives jury are Polish-Canadian programmer Dorota Lech, Moroccan filmmaker Sofia Alaoui and German director Frédéric Hambalek. Last year, the prize went to The Devil Smokes (and Saves the Burnt Matches in the Same Box). The Documentary jury include directors Lemohang Mosese and Shaunak Sen and film scholar B Ruby Rich. Last year’s prize went to Holding Liat. The Generation International Jury includes German actress Lena Urzendowsky, Sundance Director of Programming Kim Yutani and Indonesian director Khozy Rizal. Finally, the Short Film Jury includes Syrian director Ameer Fakher Eldin, Austrian film critic Stefan Grissemann and German artist and author Gabriele Stötzer. The previous winner is Lloyd Wong, Unfinished.
The Berlinale is scheduled for February 12-22 this year, one of the first major film festivals of the year.
