Michael Sardina Jr., the son of Mike and Claire Sardina, the lead subjects of the true story film Song Sung Blue, has spoken out about the film. The film follows Mike and Claire Sardina, played by Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson, as they form a Neil Diamond tribute group called Lightning and Thunder. In an interview with The Daily Mail, Michael Sardina Jr. spoke out about the film, stating that he disapproves of the way it depicts his late father and his stepmother, going so far as to say that his father was likely “rolling in his grave right now” over his portrayal. Mike Jr. also takes issue with his omission in the narrative, despite his sister, Angelina Sardina, played by King Princess in the film, serving a significant role in the film’s story.
Mike Jr. also claimed in the interview that he and his sister were allegedly paid a low amount to act as consultants for the film, and allegedly weren’t very involved in the film’s production, despite being significant parts of his parents’ lives. Despite this lack of involvement, Mike Jr. does also explain that he was invited to the film’s premiere in New York City, held on December 11, 2025, with Claire Sardina and her current stepdaughters also in attendance. At this premiere, Mike Jr explains that he had a brief interaction with Kate Hudson, but would also go on to criticize her and the other cast and crew involved with the film, for allegedly not acknowledging him and some of the rest of his family during the press tour, going as far as to calling the cast and crew “monsters” for the alleged omission.
Mike Sardina Jr. expresses later in the interview that he is determined to tell the complete and accurate story of his family, and that he allegedly intends to hold NBCUniversal and all those involved in the making of Song Sung Blue accountable for what he views as poor treatment of his family. In contrast to Mike Jr.’s comments, Claire Sardina has spoken previously about the film, praising it and Kate Hudson’s performance.
Song Sung Blue is currently in theaters in the U.S.
