After a disastrous box office year for Sydney Sweeney, which included the massive underperformance of films like the neo-noir Western Americana and the Christy Martin Biopic Christy, Sydney Sweeney continues her box office comeback with The Housemaid’s performance in its second weekend.
As of today, the film has earned $15.4 million domestically, following its debut with a domestic total of around $25 million. In total, the film, which also stars Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar, has grossed $46.5 million domestically. And with the film’s recent debut in the U.K and France, it has made a total of $64.9 million worldwide. It is also worth mentioning that the film has opened in limited territories worldwide, with plans to expand to over 84 different markets from now until January.
With these current numbers, it appears that the film may be on track to recoup its relatively low reported budget of $35 million. This would be good news for Sydney Sweeney, who saw practically every other 2025 release massively underperform at the box office, from the already mentioned Americana and Christy, to the Ron Howard-directed survival thriller Eden. It’s also good news, as it shows the film was able to sustain its box office success in its second weekend, among other big films like Avatar: Fire and Ash, and the debuts of other major releases, including Anaconda, starring Paul Rudd and Jack Black, and the Timothée Chalamet-starring film Marty Supreme.
The Housemaid is now playing in theaters in the U.S.
