One of the biggest advocates for a Mamma Mia! threequel is one of the film’s stars, Amanda Seyfried. She recently told People Magazine, “I’m going to keep campaigning for that movie until I’m blue in the face.”
Seyfried even reiterated previous sentiments about potential storylines for the third installment, specifically regarding her character Sophie’s newfound journey of motherhood.
“Oh, with kids. I mean, I love being a mother,” The Housemaid star said. “I love playing a mother, and I would love to dive into the curiosities of motherhood and raising children on a Greek island — just like [Meryl Streep’s] Donna did with Sophie.” She continued, “I think that would be really interesting. I have no idea where the story is going to go, but I know there’s going to be a lot of singing and dancing.”
Most recently, Seyfried joined the fan discussion about the potential for Sabrina Carpenter to join the musical film if they were to do another. Prior to that, she stated that even though “there’s a little bit of fatigue with sequels,” she’d sign on for “Mamma Mia! 3 in a heartbeat.”
Musical and film producer Judy Craymer told Deadline earlier this year, ahead of the Broadway revival show, that the third installment is well into development, with Streep reprising her role and a script ready. She said, “Well, we know what we want to do with the movie, and it will happen.”
