Daniel Craig’s return as Benoit Blanc for the 3rd installment in the Knives Out series will hit Netflix on December 12th. Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery brings a new ensemble into the fold as Blanc will be tasked with uncovering who murdered Monsignor Jefferson Wicks, played by Josh Brolin.
The official trailer drops us right into the scene of the crime with Father Jud Duplicity, played by Josh O’Connor, having blood on his hands. We then cut to Duplicity having a conversation with Chief Police Officer Geraldine Scott, played by Mila Kunis, who is conveying that the Father was the only person on stage with the Monsignor at the time of his murder, and it also doesn’t look good that he was the only church member who had a disdain for him. Andrew Scott’s Lee Ross cuts the tension by jesting with Father Duplicity outside of the church, although it can be seen that at this point, the Monsignor is still alive.
We see Father Duplicity emotionally conveying his innocence against everyone’s presumptions, and this is when Benoit Blanc arrives at the scene of the crime in upstate New York. Blanc is confident as ever as we see him explore the church and meet with Father Duplicity and Chief Scott. Glenn Close’s Martha Delacroix reveals a piece of the puzzle, expressing that Monsignor Wicks possessed a “…vast family fortune.” The rest of the ensemble is also shown in flashes and includes Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack, and Thomas Haden Church.
Father Duplicity is seemingly investigating the crime alongside renowned investigator Benoit Blanc. The duo is shown pushing the door into an old, rundown house, tracking down a bar based on a photograph, and Duplicity is even shown observing a strange interaction between Close’s and Church’s characters.
The trailer concludes showing Wicks’ defaced mausoleum, with Delacroix commenting that there are little rockets painted all over it, but I will leave you to determine the true nature of the vandalism. Be sure to stay tuned to MXDXN up until and through the release of Rian Johnson’s Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.
