The Stockholm Film Festival has selected its usual honorees for their respective awards, including their Achievement Award and Visionary Award. The Achievement Award will be going to Alexander Skarsgård, while the Visionary Award will be bestowed to Benny Safdie.
Skarsgård joins a very select group of his peers to have been awarded the Achievement Award. Past honorees include Viggo Mortensen, Ellen Burstyn, Ethan Hawke, and Willem Dafoe, among several others.
Much like many of the past recipients, Skarsgård has quite the extensive collection of roles to his name. His most well known, and some of his most recent, include Brandon Cronenberg’s Infinity Pool, as well as Robert Egger’s The Northman. Other appearances include Zoolander, Melancholia, and Godzilla Vs. Kong.
The Visionary Award that Safdie is set to receive honors those behind the camera, with past honorees including Darren Aronofsky and Yorgos Lanthimos. While a well established director, Benny Safdie is most commonly recognized for the films he made alongside his brother, Josh Safdie, such as Uncut Gems and Good Time. Recently, the two have started working on their own separate projects, with Benny Safdie releasing his last weekend in the form of The Smashing Machine.
Hollywood Reporter noted that the Stockholm Film Festival will even be screening both The Smashing Machine as well as Skarsgård’s most recent film, Pillion.
