Captain America: Brave New World is set to reintroduce the newest version of the iconic Marvel Cinematic Universe hero, and the director has addressed how Sam Wilson can go up against Red Hulk without any superpowers. The previous version of Captain America, Steve Rogers, and John Walker were powered through the super soldier serum. Sam Wilson doesn’t have any abilities without his suit, and so it has raised concerns about how the hero will be able to contend against the MCU’s Red Hulk.
In Empire Magazine’s latest issue, director Julius Onah discussed the experience of pitting Captain America against President Ross. In the most recent trailer, Harrison Ford transformed into the enormous villain, leading to fans’ conversations about the character and his power level. Onah, however, seems to believe that mere power is not the most important thing for Sam. He explained his reasoning: “These guys are incredible fighters, and Sam has been there and back. He’s got some tricks up his sleeve, and throughout the film, there are things he comes to learn that become other tools in his arsenal when he’s facing even the most impossible of threats.”
Onah’s comments suggest that Sam has already built a large arsenal of abilities that he will be able to pull on during this outsized conflict. While Red Hulk may seem like an impossible threat to face, it’s not completely hopeless for Sam Wilson. Following this, it makes sense that the hero may be able to provide a sufficient challenge to the Red Hulk in the upcoming Marvel film.
As Sam Wilson will be an important piece in the upcoming Avengers films, he needs to prove himself as one in this film. Fortunately, these comments seem to indicate that Sam’s knowledge and adaptability will play a major part in the upcoming conflict with the transformed Red Hulk.
