With D23 taking place in Brazil, several new Disney projects took the spotlight, offering fresh details about upcoming releases. Among the highlights was Marvel’s introduction of its “first family” into the MCU with Fantastic Four: First Steps.
A full trailer for Fantastic Four was shown at the convention, reportedly featuring new footage not available at the U.S. D23 event.
Although the trailer has leaked online, ComicBookMovie.com reported there’s no confirmation on whether it will be widely released.
Coverage of the event revealed glimpses of key plot points and characters, including Marvel’s iconic villain, Galactus. Ralph Ineson will portray Galactus, marking the first time the character is played by an actor in a feature film. Galactus was alluded to in 2007’s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer but did not appear on-screen. Reports confirmed that audiences saw Ineson as Galactus during the event.
This film represents another attempt to bring the Fantastic Four to the big screen. While Roger Corman executive produced a Fantastic Four film in the 1990s, the first big-budget adaptation came in 2005, followed by Rise of the Silver Surfer in 2007. The team was brought back again in 2015 with Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four.
Fantastic Four: First Steps is set to hit theaters on July 25.
