Sony Pictures has announced a release date for the third installment of the “Jumanji” movie series, set to premiere on Dec. 11, 2026. The movie will continue to feature actors from the first remake of the film.
The franchise’s first two films performed well in theaters, which may have influenced Sony’s decision to give the third installment a holiday release slot. Although there was some speculation about the project’s timing due to scheduling conflicts for various actors, the movie was always planned; the question was only when it would happen.
“Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” was released in 2017 as a modern remake of the popular 1995 film starring Robin Williams, directed by Joe Johnston. The adaptation featured actors such as Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black and Kevin Hart, all of whom are expected to return for the third installment.
The film will keep Jake Kasdan as director, following his role at the helm of the first two films in the franchise. Kasdan has expressed plans for the third installment, which may mark it as the final film in a trilogy adapted from Chris Van Allsburg’s children’s book.
