In an interesting turn of events Deadpool & Wolverine is back at the number one box office slot as the final summer films The Crow and Blink Twice both fail to capture audiences’ attention. Deadpool & Wolverine brought home an addition 18.3 million this weekend. While Blink Twice is a premier for new to directing Zoe Kravits, famous for her acting in the Fantastic Beasts films and Matt Reavee’s The Batman Kravits’s high brow crime thriller wasn’t exceedingly popular outside of critics who were more receptive to it than Lionsgate’s The Crow. which failed both audiences and critics.
While Blink Twice is now at 7.3 million domestically for its opening week and 6.7 million internationally for it’s 20 million budget it is planned for a streaming release that the film producers think will even out the project, so hopefully we will see Kravits reprise the role of director soon.
Making the second box office bomb for Lionsgate this season The Crow a remake of the 1994 film, brought back 10 million for the studio from its 50 million budget which is still a much higher number percentage-wise than what Borderlands is still making. Borderlands cost the studio 115 million and only brought home 15 million as its run ends, making it an almost historic flop for the studio.
As a result of this rather strange list of headliners Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman find themselves catapulted back to the top of the podium with Deadpool & Wolverine still closing in on the billion-dollar lineup of Marvel’s greatest hits. With Alien: Romulus in seconds at the box office and placing It Ends With Us Down to the third slot.
The top 10 movies for the weekend were:
- Deadpool & Wolverine 18.3 million.
- Alien: Romulous 16 million.
- It Ends With Us 12 million.
- Blink Twice 7.3 million.
- The Forge 6.6 million.
- Twisters 6.2 million.
- Coraline (An anniversary rerelease) 5 million.
