Monterrey International Film Festival out of Mexico is making its 20th anniversary special with several new programs for the industry and new team members.
According to Variety reporting the two new programs are WIP and ProMeetings. These new programs and team members are designed to boost the Festival’s international profile. “The Festival is also expanding its industry footprint to establish itself as a bridge between the U.S., Iberoamerica, and Mexico while supporting our local industry in Nuevo Leon with more programs and notable guests and honorees to be announced very soon,” Festival Board President Lorena Villarreal said to Variety.
The WIP program is designed to support films in post-production, offering help in post-production, distribution, and marketing support. 6 out of 20 entries will be chosen for this category according to Variety.
ProMeetings will provide networking opportunities for projects in development.
The new hires to the team include Diana Cobos as general manager and Eva-Ruiz de Chávez (out of LA) as industry manager according to Variety. Returners to the team will be Abraham González as head of programming and Álvar Carretero as head of International PR & Talent.
“This year, we are not only commemorating our past but also driving the festival toward a future filled with fresh, innovative, and daring voices. Our mission is to elevate new perspectives that are young not by age, but by their critical and bold narrative,” said Cobos to Variety. “Nuevo León’s youthful energy is reflected in our programming and the festival’s overall personality.”
González is working on curating the festival list of close to 70 titles, which will be announced on August 15, for the 8 competition categories. The event itself will be held from September 25 until October 2.
