Following last year’s Evil Dead Rise, the Evil Dead series shows no signs of being dead by dawn. A new movie is in the works, with a director tapped to helm the project.
Taking over as director this time around is Francis Galluppi, following Lee Cronin after he directed Evil Dead Rise. Galluppi will also write the new installment.
The original Evil Dead was the breakout hit for director Sam Raimi and actor Bruce Campbell. Made on a budget of less than $400,000, it went on to spawn several sequels and reboots, including a 2013 reimagining from director Fede Álvarez.
The biggest notch in Galluppi’s film résumé is 2023’s The Last Stop In Yuma County, which he directed, wrote, produced, and edited. He has many short film credits, including Palm Drive, High Desert Hell, and The Gemini Project, for which he also composed the score.
Multiple facets of production seeing involvement from Galluppi is similar to how the Evil Dead films have been made. Sam Raimi wrote and directed all three films in the original Evil Dead trilogy, even editing Army Of Darkness.
Deadline, who first broke the news, also reported that this is one of two projects from the Evil Dead franchise currently in the works. Sébastien Vaniček also has an Evil Dead film on the horizon which he will helm. However, much like Galluppi’s film, little is known about the plot, or how it will fit into the rest of the franchise.
