Nine years after Mad Max: Fury Road made its debut during the Cannes Film Festival, George Miller and his Mad Max series are making their return to the festival this year.
With the release of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga coming in May, Miller says that he is excited to have this new film in the franchise make its world premiere at Cannes, as he has had the idea for the film with him for the last decade. According to The Hollywood Reporter Miller stated, “There is no better place than La Croisette to experience this film with audiences on the world stage.”
The film is a prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will follow the character Furiosa, who is played by Anya Taylor-Joy, while she is trying to survive a war conflict between two tyrants fighting for dominance in a post-apocalyptic world.
Other stars of the film include Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke.
While this is just one of the many films that will be a part of Cannes, the official list of films being shown will be announced sometime next month.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will be released in France on May 22, 2024, and then in the U.S. on May 24, 2024.
