Following the success of American Fiction nomination for first-time feature filmmaker at the Directors Guild of America Awards, director Cord Jefferson continues to write new projects.
While on the red carpet for the GMA’s, Jefferson told Deadline about two projects he is currently working on.
Posted on their X profile, Jefferson said that he is currently working on an erotic thriller, something that he has been wanting to work on after seeing the film Fatal Attraction.
Not only this, but the other project he is currently writing is a neo-contemporary western film that has a mix of noir into it. These films will be different from each other and American Fiction, but Jefferson says that they do have similar themes to one another.
His ambitions in writing were not the only things discussed during his red carpet walk, as he also shared what actors and actresses he would like to work with. Names such as Gene Hackman (The French Connection), Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton), Bryan Tyree Henry (Bullet Train) and Cynthia Erivo (Harriet and Wicked) were mentioned.
Jefferson has had success in terms of writing for television and film, as he has written on the show The Good Place and Watchman mini series. American Fiction was his first time directing a project he wrote for and the film is nominated for five Academy Awards, one of which he is personally in the running for Best Adapted Screenplay.
There is currently no time window for when these projects will be worked on or green-lit, but seeing the current success Jefferson is seeing, it would not be surprising to see him continuing to walk red carpets in the future.
