Jennifer Lopez is dropping a musical this week on Prime Video titled This is Me…Now: A Love Story. The film is being released in conjunction with her first new album in ten years titled This is Me…Now on February 16th. Despite the star power Lopez draws, she and her co-producer Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas had a difficult time securing funding for the project. Consequently, instead of relying on funding from large backers, Lopez decided to fund the project on her own dime.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter Lopez stated, “Everybody thought I was crazy when I said I would do it. We did have financing, and then that fell out. They pulled out at the last minute, and then it was that moment where you go, “OK, do we just make a video or do we go ahead and do this thing?” Elaine and I talked about it. We talked about whether or not I do this or I just go make two videos and go the normal route. I decided that I didn’t want to do that. I wanted to see this vision through.”
The film itself has a notable cast including Jane Fonda, Keke Palmer, Post Malone, Sofia Vergara, Fat Joe, Trevor Noah, Jay Shetty, Kim Petras, Neil deGrasse Tyson, and Lopez’s husband, Ben Affleck. The story follows a hopeless romantic played by Lopez, who is trying to navigate love and life while dealing with strong opinions from family and friends.
Lopez most recently performed publicly on Saturday Night Live, alongside host Ayo Edebiri to promote her upcoming album.
