HBO has released the trailer and release date for the upcoming documentary The Insurrectionist Next Door. Directed and produced by Alexandra Pelosi, the film will focus on interviews with those who participated in the January 6th Capitol insurrections and explore their reasoning behind their actions.
On January 6th, 2021, mobs of Trump supporters surrounded the Capitol building in protest against Biden’s victory in the 2020 election. They soon stormed the Capitol building, vandalizing the rooms and bragging on social media about it. Alexandra and her mother, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, were inside the Capitol at the time of the storming, forcing her to become a firsthand witness to the insurrection.
In the two years since the Insurrection, Alexandra traveled across the US to interview those who participated, from homes to prison calls. According to the filmmaker, the goal was to understand the insurrectionists’ views and how those have either stayed the same or changed over the years. Through the documentary, Pelois hoped to discuss political and cultural polarization “without shying away from challenging topics and a surprisingly forthright set of conversations emerge despite the political divides.”
HBO Documentary Films will present the documentary, which will be released on October 15th on HBO at 9:00-10:15 PM EST/PST. At the same time, the documentary will be available on Max to stream.
