No one could go anywhere in 2013 without hearing about Jennifer Lawrence; as the face of the world’s most popular book/movie franchise– and the most recent winner of the Best Actress Academy Award, she was on the cover of every magazine and on the front page of every website.
However, Lawrence recently revealed that she nearly turned down the role of Katniss Everdeen, the very role that helped propel her into international stardom.
“…I almost didn’t do Hunger Games because Twilight had come out and that fandom had happened,” Lawrence said during a recent interview.
Lawrence confirmed in the same interview that she auditioned for Twilight, but was not even given a callback. However, not scoring the role of Bella allowed her to not only be open to audition and eventually star in the Hunger Games, but also to star in Winter’s Bone, the 2010 film which earned her an Oscar nomination.
Lawrence was initially wary to take the role of Katniss due to seeing how the stars of Twilight were treated by the paparazzi: “I assumed it was going to be the ‘Twilight’ level of fame and that was never something I had in mind. I never wanted to be the most famous person on the planet. That’s a very different life than I pictured for me.”
Lawrence also revealed recently that she would be “100 percent” willing to play Katniss Everdeen again, if the opportunity should ever present itself.
The new Hunger Games film, A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, will be out in November, and Lawrence’s new film No Hard Feelings is in theaters now.
