Oliver Stone’s new film Nuclear Now delves into climate change as he advocates using nuclear power. The trailer goes into Stone’s ideology, which claims that nuclear power is the best tool humanity can use to replace the overreliance on fossil fuels.
Although the use of this source of energy frightens many individuals through its name and infamous moments, the trailer asks the viewer to be open-minded, for “scary is not the same as dangerous.” The unnamed speaker in the trailer continues, “Coal is dangerous. Now more people die from coal in a couple weeks than more people have ever died form nuclear [power]…” The explicit here is that coal is a resource normalized in everyday use but argued to be far more dangerous.
The documentary premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2021 under the name Nuclear and received many positive reviews. In addition to being the director, Stone is also a co-writer and producer for the film. Abramorama and Giant Picture acquired the distribution rights for North America on Mach 3rd, and they will release the film in select theaters on April 28th.
