Thanks to the Brothers Discovery, Warner has recently made the animated franchise a hit. Many projects involving the Mystery Inc. gang were canceled last year due to cost concerns, and a Scooby-Doo project was added to the list this month. But in a surprising twist, Scooby-Doo and Krypto-Too recently made their way online despite the cancellation of tax cuts.
Footage of the canceled film was released, Scooby-Doo fans began to go viral on social media, and it appears the entire film has gone online. The first footage of the Scooby-Doo x Krypto movie hit the internet the day another Mystery Inc. project was scrapped. HBO Max pulled the plug on Scooby-Doo and Mystery Pups just before footage from the canceled film was released.
Warner Bros. Discovery has shelved several movies over the past year, but none have been released, so this apparent leak is the first. Batgirl gained worldwide attention as WBD CEO David Zaslav began cutting costs across the board after the finished film was removed from the company’s release calendar. Writing off a project, even a completed one, is tax deductible for WBD. Unfortunately, Scooby-Doo fell victim to this rather drastic cost-cutting move.
Last summer, Scooby-Doo fans got to know Scooby! Holiday Haunt was canceled, but it was nearly complete when the call came. Not so long ago, netizens also learned about Scooby-Doo and Haunted High Rise, but then came the fan-favorite Hex Girls. The series has lost four projects under WBD in the last year.
As for Scooby-Doo and Krypto Too, no word on how the leaked footage will affect WBD’s tax cuts. The film was planned to traverse the world of Scooby-Doo with the DC comics by pairing Shaggy’s best friend with Superdog Krypto. Recently, Superman’s pups were seen on the big screen in the DC League in Super Pets. Scooby-Doo wanted to show dogs the secrets of puzzle-solving starring Frank Weller and Gray Griffin, Scooby-Doo, and Krypto Too would have been a fun crossover event for families, but now all that’s left is what you can find online.
