After being delayed by the Covid pandemic, Andy Muschietti’s The Flash is due to be released on June 16. The film is set to transition the DC Universe between that of Zack Snyder, director of Justice League (2017), and new DC Bosses Peter Safran and James Gunn. Safran and Gunn have expressed their excitement at the release, but it remains unknown whether Ezra Miller will be reprising his role as The Flash – after his debut in Justice League – in the new DC Universe.
Beginning in 2022, Ezra Miller was involved in a slew of headlining incidents, including a physical altercation in Reykjavik, Iceland, and an assault charge after hitting a woman with a chair when asked to leave a private residence in Hawaii. Miller has also been accused of grooming and abuse by the parents of 18-year-old activist Tokata Iron Eyes.
Following the scandals, Miller stated in August that “having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment. I want to apologize to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behavior.”
On January 13, Miller pleaded guilty to unlawful trespass in a burglary charge, receiving a year of administrative probation and a $500 fine.
Responding to inquiries regarding the actor’s return to the role, Safran has been very supportive of the actor’s recovery but unclear regarding the state of the new DC-verse, saying, “When the time is, when they feel they are ready to have the discussion, we’ll all figure out what the best way forward is.”
Gunn, when asked about the fates of other actors set to play in the DC Universe, including Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Henry Cavill as Superman, and Sasha Calle, who was set to play Supergirl in The Flash, stated, “We’re figuring it all out.”
