Amy Adams’ stunning acting talent combined with Marielle Heller’s directing is sure to create cinematic gold in the new neo-horror dark comedy film Nightbitch. Although the film shares its name with the character from Kick-Ass, it’s an adaptation of Rachel Yoder’s best selling novel. The book follows an woman, recently brought into motherhood, morphing into an folklorish canine after battling with the everyday boredom of the suburbs.
“Rachel Yoder‘s book took my breath away,” Heller spoke in a statement on the film. “I haven’t felt this way about a book since I read The Diary Of A Teenage Girl many years ago. Rachel’s darkly hilarious tale of motherhood and rage made me feel seen. And adapting it with Amy Adams in mind has been the thing that has kept me going through the pandemic.”
Horror is uncharted territory for Amy Adams, with the nearest role to horror she had was Louise Banks in Arrival. Although horror is new, the comedic aspects of the film could be the life preserver for Adams. Heller, director of Can You Ever Forgive Me? and A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood, is in the same sink or swim situation for her first outing in horror as well.
Disney has already gotten a hold of the film, with cameras set to start shooting soon enough sometime in September. Hulu is the expected viewing platform for state side audiences, boding an Disney+ release globally.
