Deadline reported Thursday that Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Stephanie Beatriz and Vampire Diaries star Paul Wesley had been cast in Shudder’s upcoming horror film History of Evil.
According to Deadline, the film will follow Beatriz and Wesley as a couple escaping a corrupt state government with their family. When they decide to hide in a safe house, they find an evil past attached to the place. They must survive whatever horrors await them in order to escape their hunters.
Bo Mirhosseni, an Iranian-American director, is directing the film. The film is being produced by XYZ Films and Two & Two Pictures. XYZ and Two & Two have entered an agreement to produce films by first and second-time directors who are from underrepresented demographics. XYZ has had a solid recent run of indie horror films with the superb Wolf of Snow Hollow, Synchronic, and the Swedish horror-comedy, The Trip.
This will be Beatriz’s first jump into the horror genre, and her first film after voicing Mirabel in Disney’s smash hit Encanto. She also most recently lent her voice as Lady Kima in Amazon’s animated take on Critical Role’s first Dungeons and Dragons campaign, The Legend of Vox Machina.
History of Evil will begin filming this spring and will premiere on Shudder later this year.
