The audience awards are coming Saturday when this year’s film festival officially closes. Tonight, it was time for some incredibly well-credentialed juries to weigh in.
This was my first year attending the Film Awards night. Last year because I was trying my darnedest to cover the entire festival myself I skipped it in favor of seeing more movies. This year, with a little help, I wanted to bring you the winners firsthand. If you follow us on Twitter, you were getting winners in each category as they were announced.
Unlike the Academy Awards or the Golden Globes where I’ve seen and have a strong opinion on nearly every nominee, I’ve seen almost none of the films nominated for SXSW Jury awards, especially since about half of the awards go to short films and I haven’t been to any of the shorts programs. (Yet.) The winners in all the major categories will be playing tomorrow night, so although either Erik, Cara, or I have already given some opinion on several of the films that were honored, I’m hoping to bring you some more on them then.
